Ali Bahman, an alumnus of the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS) was recently selected as one of two Canadian youth delegates for the G20 Summit (Y20) in Tokyo. He was chosen by the Young Diplomats of Canada and the Y20 Japanese Committee following a series of evaluations and interviews.
Bahman engaged in discussions with other youth and G20 delegates on the topics of Business and Environment, the Future of Work, and International Trade. They drafted three proposals on the issues that were presented to the Prime Minister of Japan, Abe Shinzo.

Bahman’s personal story makes his experience at the G20 all the more remarkable. He was born to illiterate parents in Afghanistan, who moved the family to Pakistan, Iran and former Soviet states in search of a better life.
He received a Master of Arts in European, Russian and Eurasian Studies and has served in a number of roles in the Canadian public service.
