The Dean of the Faculty of Public Affairs assists in funding some of the travel costs incurred by faculty members to attend or participate in academic conferences, workshops and seminars to present research on or to learn about new knowledge or techniques directly related to university teaching and pedagogy.

This funding is available for all professorial and instructor-rank faculty, including limited term instructors holding a full-time faculty appointment. Contract, adjunct and emeritus faculty are not eligible for these funds.

For the purposes of this funding, participation includes attending a conference, seminar or workshop or presenting a paper, poster, or participating in a panel or roundtable focused on education and teaching.

Please include in your application a brief (maximum 250 words) plan for dissemination or implementation of the knowledge gained through conference travel, a copy of the conference program, and (if applicable) a copy of the acceptance of your paper or poster by the conference organizers.

The Dean’s office will advise the applicant of the funding support that will be provided.

Applications should be submitted well in advance of the planned travel. Retroactive applications will not be considered.

Applicants are eligible for up to $1250 in funds per fiscal year (May 1 until April 30). This may be spread over up to two trips. Preliminary and tenure-track faculty who have not yet received tenure and promotion or confirmation are eligible for up to $1,500.

Funding is available for conference fee registration (not for association fees), accommodation and transportation costs up to the value of economy class airfare. Food costs are not covered.

Travel advance requests and travel reimbursements will be administered in accordance with the University’s travel policy.
