To the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Community,

What defines a healthy city?

Join the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences for a series of expert panels to explore the many factors – from nature and housing to climate and art – that make a healthy city.

Tuesday, January 21, at 7:00 p.m (EST) at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre (290 Lisgar Street) for “Digital Humanities and the City.”

The digital humanities is an approach to the big questions of our age: what does it mean to be human when everything is so digitally-mediated? At the same time, it examines our digital culture and says, what do we see when we look at digital media from a humanities perspective? Then, let’s throw in the fact that human culture, overwhelmingly for the first time in human history, is urban culture. What do we see? What answers do we come up with? For that matter, what even are the questions? Can the digital humanities make our cities better?

Panelists Dr. Laura Banducci, Dr. Constance Crompton, Dr. Amanda Montague and Dr. Jada Watson will approach these questions from their complementary perspectives from archaeology, history, cultural memory, and information studies.

Dr. Shawn Graham will moderate the conversation. For more details, click the “Register Today” button below to view the event page on our website.

We hope to see you there!
