The Management Committee of Latin American and Caribbean Studies was dismayed to learn that the groundbreaking work on income inequality carried out by Dr. Francisco Robles Rivera and Msc. Lorenzo Ramírez Cardoza of the University of Costa Rica is receiving public attacks and threats.

In the context of increased attacks on academics around the world, it is more important than ever to stand in solidarity with our colleagues and fight back against threats to academic freedom. The University of Costa Rica must support the rights of faculty members to carry out their research freely.

Please see the letter from LACS faculty below and feel free to write to the University of Costa Rica’s president, Dr. Araya Leandro, to express your support for academic freedom.
