When participating in online offerings, participants must read, understand, and agree to the following:

RECORDINGS:

OUR OFFERINGS ARE LIVE EVENTS; PLEASE BE SURE YOU CAN ATTEND AT THE SPECIFIED TIMES. We may make and use recordings as a backup in case of technology problems. However, at the moment we do not share recordings, in part out of copyright and intellectual property concerns. Our approach may change in the future when we have a more secure place to store and stream recordings.

TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT:

I require high-speed internet to participate in this offering, and should install Zoom’s free application for Windows or Mac desktop computers (or tablets with keyboards) for the best experience. I will test my ability to use Zoom by downloading the free desktop application, and using this test link, https://zoom.us/test, before attending any offering.

PRIVACY:

This session may be recorded. I acknowledge I can keep my camera turned off and change my display name to protect my privacy if desired.

VIRTUAL OFFERING WAIVER:

I will be participating remotely in the Lifelong Learning Program and will not be on-site at Carleton University. I will be using my personal computer, phone, and internet at my own expense for the duration of the Lifelong Learning Program class I’m enrolled in. I understand that it is my responsibility to ensure I have up-to-date antivirus software and other internet security to prevent malicious software that could damage my computer systems or those of the University. If any technical issues arise, such as a cyber attack or loss of data, the University will not be held liable for any and all costs, expenses, or claims arising from a loss of data or any other software or hardware damage.

REFUND AND TRANSFER REQUESTS (FOR SINGLE LECTURE PRESENTATIONS ONLY):

Email refund requests for single lecture presentations must be sent to lifelonglearning@carleton.ca at least five business days before the class start date. All refunds are subject to a $10 administrative charge. The same applies to a request to transfer. Refund or transfer requests made less than five business days before the class start date will not receive a refund. Non-attendance does not constitute a withdrawal request. Contact us for assistance if technology problems have barred you from participating in online classes despite repeated attempts to solve the problems. If technology problems on Lifelong Learning Program’s side prevents a class from running or completing, we will reschedule or refund participants. Refunds must be returned to the original form of payment.

REFUND AND TRANSFER REQUESTS (FOR LECTURE AND WORKSHOP SERIES ONLY):

Email refund requests for lecture series and workshop series must be sent to lifelonglearning@carleton.ca at least five business days before the class start date. All refunds are subject to a $15 administrative charge. The same applies to a request to transfer. Refund or transfer requests made less than five business days before the series start, but at least 72 hours (3 business days) before the start of the second class of the series, will be subject to an additional administrative charge of $30. Requests made after this time will not receive a refund. Contact us for assistance if technology problems have barred you from participating in online classes despite repeated attempts to solve the problems. If technology problems on Lifelong Learning Program’s side prevents a class from running or completing, we will reschedule or refund participants. Refunds must be returned to the original form of payment.

RESPECTFUL LEARNING ENVIRONMENT:

When participating in Lifelong Learning Program’s online offerings, I will:

  • respect the privacy of others by refraining from taking screenshots and/or asking for personal information
  • be respectful of each other and understand that disagreement may occur when discussing certain topics. Listening to other people’s comments is part of the learning experience.

The Lifelong Learning Program will not tolerate any content that is defamatory, hateful, racist, xenophobic, sexist, vulgar, obscene, threatening, insulting, offensive, and/or abusive.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

The Lifelong Learning Program reserves the right to reschedule or cancel virtual offerings. Participants who are unable to attend the rescheduled class will be offered a prorated refund. Cancelled virtual offerings will be prorated and refunded to each participant. No administrative fee will apply in this instance.
