Some time ago, a group of colleagues and myself were hosted at University of Toronto’s Koffler Scientific Reserve to discuss, among other things, the future of Canadian Field Stations (mostly University based field stations). We decided that the time was coming to network and share best practices and this wiki site provides some of the insights from that Canadian Instiute of Ecology and Evolution (CIEE)-sponsored workshop on Canadian Field Stations. In addition, a white paper co-authored by Paul Smith and myself and inspired by the above-mentioned workshop (with participants as advisors or contributors) also was developed. It is my hope that this vision of creating a network of field stations will be realized as the need for taking stock of climate change adaptation and ecosystem services and biodiversity protection continue to weigh on society. Currently, the wiki site and white paper are meant to serve as supporting documents for those interested in potentiating field stations.
