If lending your iPad to a child, you can ensure they stay in their game app by applying a passcode to the “Home” button:
- Settings → General → Accessibility → Guided Access
Introduced in iOS 6, Guided Access mode allows a parent to limit an iOS device to one app by disabling the Home button, as well as optionally restrict touch input on certain areas of the screen.
