Angelyn Warmington, a third-year undergraduate student specializing in international studies, is one of 20 outstanding Canadian university students travelling to Botswana in May to participate in a six-week workshop on HIV/AIDS in the Southern African country.
The international seminar is delivered through Uniterra, a joint program of World University Service of Canada (WUSC) and the Canadian Centre for International Studies and Cooperation.
In Botswana Warmington was paired with a local student and volunteered with a local organization focusing on HIV/AIDS prevention and care.
“I want to learn more about how HIV transmission can be minimized or prevented, and about the orphans’ mental and physical health,” says Warmington, who is treasurer and administrative coordinator for WUSC’s local committee at Carleton.
