Kailey Vokes (MPM class of 2013) was recently named as the Chief of Staff to the Hon. Caroline Mulroney, President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Francophone Affairs, in the Government of Ontario.
Kailey was previously the Director of Partnerships at Infrastructure Ontario, Director at StrategyCorp and Director of Policy (Major Projects) in the Ontario Premier’s Office. She had also worked with Minister Mulroney before, as the Director of Policy at the Ministry of Transportation and as Campaign Manager in the 2018 provincial election. An experienced political advisor at federal and provincial levels, this new leadership role comes at an important time for the province.
“Serving as the Chief of Staff to a Cabinet minister in the Ontario Government is a privilege,” said Kailey Vokes. “The professors, instructors and guest lecturers the MPM Program attracts to Carleton University provided skills and experience early in my career so that I was well prepared to take on challenging opportunities and leadership roles both in and outside of government.”
The job of Chief of Staff is a demanding one – as the most senior political advisor to the Minister, a leader and mentor for other staff in the office, the Minister’s main liaison with the non-partisan public service, and a key contact for stakeholders. In a central agency, like the Treasury Board, the job also demands a birds’-eye view of a government’s policy and political agenda.
“I’m thrilled to be part of the MPM alumni community that continues to have such a meaningful impact for Canadians,” Vokes added.
“This is”, said MPM Director, Dr. Jennifer Robson “another terrific example of the success MPM graduates are enjoying and the contributions they are making to politics all across the country.”
