The federal government has appointed Stephen Azzi, professor in the Clayton H. Riddell Graduate Program in Political Management, to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada.
Established in 1919, the board advises the minister responsible for Parks Canada on fulfilling the minister’s duties under the Historic Sites and Monuments Act. This includes the designation of historic sites, events, or individuals of national historic significance. Over its history, the board has been involved in recognizing more than 2,240 national historic sites, events, and persons.
A professor of Political Management, History, and Political Science at Carleton University, Azzi is a founding faculty member of the Riddell Program. He has published extensively on Canadian history, with a focus on politics, ideas, and international relations. His most recent book is the third edition of the Historical Dictionary of Canada (co-authored with Barry Gough). He will represent Ontario on the board for a five-year term.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve on the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada. The board has a long and distinguished record of making history live for Canadians. I look forward to contributing to that work and that mission.”
