We are hiring a postdoctoral research fellow to work with a collaborative team of researchers from Carleton University and the Nature Conservancy of Canada. Potential projects involve examining decisions around protection and stewardship measures on Canadian lands. The position is available to be filled starting March 2024, with some flexibility in start date, and is expected to be of two year duration. Renewal after the first year is contingent upon performance and budget. Research fellows will be mentored by Dr. Joseph Bennett and collaborators. Position Duties
1. Conduct and publish biodiversity conservation research in research areas noted above, with a particular focus on conservation problems in Canada.
2. Work with colleagues and graduate students on the development of joint research projects.
3. Coordinate meetings and workshops that bring together academic and non-academic stakeholders.
4. Actively participate in collaborative research and learning events in the lab.
Selection Criteria
Skills and Qualifications
1. PhD in the area of applied ecology, applied mathematics, environmental economics, environmental policy, statistics or a related discipline. (Essential, with exceptions for expert Indigenous knowledge plus significant research experience)
2. Expert knowledge in one or more aspects of biodiversity conservation and/or environmental decision science (Essential)
3. Expert knowledge in advanced statistics or AI / machine learning AND/OR land use policy (Essential)
4. Ability to establish effective relationships between academics and the wider community (Essential)
Experience
1. Contribution to research in the form of peer-reviewed publications in the international literature (Essential)
2. Previous work with academic and non-academic partners on an applied scientific project. (Desirable)
3. Previous team leadership experience (Desirable)
