The Department of Public Policy and Administration and the Department of Environmental Engineering at Carleton University is accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in an international project, “Transforming places for the precariously housed: Equitable adaptation pathways for climate mobilities” (PATH), funded by the Canadian New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF).
The anticipated start date will be August 1, 2024 with a duration of one year with the possibility of renewal up to three years pending performance and availability of funds. The postdoctoral fellow will engage in efforts that support and enhance the PATH project which aims to foster improved representation of communities’ needs and aspirations in planning and policy processes related to climate mobilities and infrastructure needs.
Department Background Information
Carleton University is located in Ottawa, Canada. The postdoctoral fellow can associate themselves with either the School of Public Policy and Administration and/or Environmental Engineering. This position is well suited for a highly interdisciplinary scholar and as a result, there is flexibility on the departmental affiliation that would best suit the selected individual. Importantly, they will also be affiliated with the Climate Change Collaborative that links across all Faculty at Carleton.
Research Project Overview
The PATH project engages with the need for planning and climate adaptation actions that addresses mounting climate risks and existing challenges like housing precarity and food insecurity. However, the priorities of those who are more affected are often not heard. The PATH project focuses on bridging this gap by partnering with communities and local, regional, and national governments in Canada, Nepal, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. Arts-based and community led approaches will be used to foreground the knowledge of people. Entry points will be evaluated to weave and incorporate this knowledge into future adaptation planning and transformational projects that address underlying poverty and inequality.
