To All Members of the Carleton Community,
Brightspace by D2L will replace cuLearn as Carleton’s Learning Management System (LMS) in May. Effective May 6, academic courses will be hosted in Brightspace. We are less than two months away from this transition and we have much to look forward to: a faster, more reliable system and new ways to engage students.
In preparation for this launch, all instructors, staff and students now have access to the new LMS. Log in at brightspace.carleton.ca using your MC1 credentials to begin exploring the new interface. Short video tours are also available for instructors and students.
The LMS implementation team has continued its hard work to prepare Brightspace for the Carleton community. To date, approximately 20,000 courses have been migrated from cuLearn to Brightspace. By June 1, five years of content will have been transferred.
If you would like support for reviewing your migrated content or exploring a fresh course setup, Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) is available for individual consultations. Course migration and course setup resources can also help with this process.
This month marks the beginning of the Brightspace Showcase series, which provides an opportunity to learn from instructional colleagues who participated in the pilot this term. They will share their experiences, what they learned and what worked best for them. The first Welcome to My Brightspace Classroom session is scheduled for March 30, followed by the first Brightspace Panel Showcase on April 14.
In addition to showcase sessions, TLS continues to offer introductory Brightspace training, as well as advanced sessions on assignments and rubrics, quizzes, discussions and gradebook.
For those who are unable to attend a live session, recordings of past workshops are available on the new Brightspace Media channel. We have also launched a new self-paced asynchronous training course to introduce you to basic navigation and key workflows to help you build your course.
As you continue to explore Brightspace and begin building your courses, remember there are a variety of support options available to you. Extensive instructions and guides are available on the Brightspace instructor, student and teaching assistant support sites. TLS staff are available to help you find solutions to your course needs. D2L also provides 24/7/365 technical support via phone, chat or email.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to TLS and the implementation team with any questions by emailing tls@carleton.ca.
Sincerely,
