Emmanuel (Abwa) Opito

PhD candidate at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda

Lecturer at Muni University, Arua, Uganda

As a Queen Elizabeth Scholar, I achieved significant academic and professional milestones during my exchange at Carleton University, Canada. Key accomplishments include biodiversity data analysis leading to development of manuscripts focusing on invasive species management and tropical forest restoration in Uganda.

Beyond research, I built interdisciplinary networks, delivering talks that triggered a collaborative study in Tanzania and potential collaborations between Carleton and Muni University. Technical insights were gained in waste-water management and captive conservation strategies at Parc Omega. Experiences, ranging from urban park management to ex-situ conservation at the Montreal Biodome, also provided a perspective on ecological integrity and stewardship.
