Vincent Chen is currently a Master of Applied Science student in Civil Engineering at Carleton University and a member of our research group. His research focuses on the application of machine learning and symbolic regression to 3D-printed concrete, with the goal of developing interpretable predictive models for the mechanical behaviour of printed cementitious materials. His current work involves building and curating a large experimental database from published studies, training machine learning models to predict material strength, and using explainable AI methods to better understand the influence of mixture design, printing parameters, and testing conditions.
Prior to beginning his MASc, Vincent completed his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at Carleton University and worked as an NSERC-USRA Research Assistant in our research group. His research interests include 3D-printed concrete, structural modelling, machine learning applications in civil engineering, and data-driven modelling. In his spare time, he enjoys playing volleyball, training, and exploring new food spots.
