Under funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Carleton University’s Spacecraft Robotics and Control Laboratory partners with Neptec Design Group Ltd. on an industrial R&D project related to the development of relative navigation software enabling autonomous rendezvous and docking with uncooperative spacecraft. Specifically, the new navigation system will calculate the relative pose between two space vehicles, while relying solely on a thermal infrared camera. Experimental validations at Carleton’s Spacecraft Robotics and Control Laboratory and at Neptec are expected.
