Trip interruption insurance: TBD based on value of trip (i.e. air plus land). Strongly recommended. More information will be provided closer to travel.

Health insurance: Required. You probably have coverage through student plans, parents’ plans, or employer plans. You will be asked to provide proof that you are covered (screen capture of your coverage is sufficient) in order to travel. If you do not have coverage please contact Professor Butler for advice on how to secure private insurance.

For students who would like to confirm if their insurance coverage is adequate, they can connect with Carleton’s risk and insurance team.

FAQ FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS UNDER THE CUSA/STUDENT CARE PLAN 2020 INFORMATION:

1. I will be part time during the Summer session May 2022. Will this affect coverage?

Insurance is covered for the year if enrolled starting in September. If you begin your coverage in September, you will be covered for one year until August 31st. If you are enrolled starting in the Winter semester, you will also be covered for one year: ex. January-January. You are not covered just for the spring semester as there is no coverage for just that time. To be clear, if you are a full-time student taking at least 4 courses during the year, you are covered and will be covered in May 2022. If taking less than 4 courses there is a change of coverage time which has passed for the first semester. There is no deductible for the time in question. Click here for more information.

2. Are students eligible for travel health insurance? What is covered, what isn’t, what is the deductible? What is the process for claims?

This page outlines the claims process.

If students have the health plan, they are eligible. Student Care covers 120 days per trip.

Claims: reimbursement is done in Canada. If medical emergency occurs out of country, students pay out of pocket, bring back receipts, and file a claim. The day the claim is processed will be the Canadian currency value for an equivalent or similar procedure in Canada.

3. Are students eligible for travel trip interruption insurance (not related to medical) ex. if someone in their family dies, if Carleton cancels the trip, if Canada declares a do not travel advisory?

There is no travel trip interruption insurance that is not related to medical emergencies.

Please note, the above information pertains only to UNDERGRADUATE students who ARE covered under the CUSA Student Care plan.
