CRCJ 3201 B –  Selected Criminological Topics

Late Summer (July/Aug) – Mondays & Wednesdays, 11:35am – 2:25pm

Topic: Violence

This course will examine violence as a key category in criminological analysis. The first part of the course will develop theoretical tools for the analysis and evaluation of violence while the second part of the course will focus on several case studies. Topics might include mass incarceration, solitary confinement, violence against particular groups (gender, ethnic, racial, sexual, etc), killing, whether or not violence has “increased” or “decreased,” the distinction between permissible non-criminal violence and criminal violence. Method of evaluation is contingent upon enrolment, but regardless of class size, students will be expected to complete assigned readings each class and submit a short response paper.

This course is a CCJ Approved Elective.
