The Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation is a private, philanthropic foundation based in Toronto, Canada. The Foundation undertakes research, leadership development and public dialogue so that public policies in Canada reflect a commitment to collaborative stewardship of our freshwater resources and to a people-driven, equitable and evolving North.

The Gordon Foundation is seeking a Program Coordinator for a part-time (O.6 FTE/3 day a week) position on a 2.5-year contract reporting to and supported by the Director of Programs to coordinate the Foundation’s Jane Glassco Northern Fellowship program – a leadership and career development program for young northerners. Core responsibilities are:

  • Assist the Director of Programs in assembling a curriculum team to build the content and evaluation methods for the two-year leadership development program
  • Solicit applications for the Fellowship program and administrate the selection and confirmation process, from the short list and reference checking to selection and confirmation, including all formal paperwork
  • Design and implement a skills assessment of selected Fellows before the start of the formal gatherings and curriculum delivery
  • Assemble a group of senior executive mentors to pair with Fellows, based on Fellows’ needs and areas of interest, and ensure the Fellow/mentor relationships are thriving
  • Develop a meeting schedule, and organize all aspects of regular virtual meetings and gatherings in person, including engaging expert facilitators and special guests
  • Facilitate production needs of Fellows as they develop and execute individual and group projects, including but not limited to identifying and engaging appropriate assistance
  • Facilitate regular communication and team building
  • Provide assistance to Fellows to ensure full participation in the program, completion of tasks, and a fulfilling experience. Duties may include, but are not limited to, identifying and engaging experts to further coach Fellows, provide technical assistance or training
  • Assist the Development Officer in producing fundraising pitches and packages
  • Develop a Fellows alumni program and utilize past Fellows appropriately
  • Work within the budget provided and produce quarterly reports on progress
  • Represent the Foundation and the program to the public and act as main media spokesperson for the program

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field
  • Two years’ work experience in a related field preferred
  • Demonstrated project management experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of public policy in a Canadian context
  • Demonstrated self-starter with proven ability to implement projects independently
  • Ability to work with a team is essential
  • Strong communications skills essential
  • Demonstrated ability to network, build teams and consensus
  • Knowledge of and experience in a northern setting is essential
  • Experience working with indigenous populations is essential
  • Community and volunteer organizing is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel required

Salary
Salary is commensurate with both level of experience and location of the selected Coordinator.  The Foundation has a progressive benefits package.  If the position is located outside of Toronto, additional office administration costs will be covered.
