Registration is now open for Dechinta’s Winter/Spring 2014 Semester.
Dechinta Centre for Research and Learning is a northern-led initiative delivering land-based, University of Alberta-credited educational experiences led by northern leaders, experts, elders and professors to engage northern and southern youth in a transformative curricula based on the cutting-edge needs of Canada’s North.
Dechinta is offering four courses in its upcoming program: Indigenous Self-Determination in Theory and Practice; Sustainable Communities; Indigenous Community Health; and Community Governance, Research and Writing in Native Studies.
Dechinta also offers Firearms Safety and Wilderness First Aid Certification.
Students will learn and practice trapping, ice net fishing, bush camp set up and maintenance, and traditional moose hide tanning with Dene elders and experienced practitioners.
The intensive onsite portion of the Winter/Spring 2014 Semester runs from March 16 to May 4, 2014 on Chief Drygeese Territory in the Akaitcho Region of Denendeh.
