On March 13 and 14, 2014, the School of Public Policy and Administration celebrated its 60th anniversary with a reception and policy conference. Dr. Frances Abele, Academic Director of the Carleton Centre for Community Innovation, moderated an especially interesting panel titled: Indigenous Policy and Governance: The Way Ahead?
This panel reflected on whether or not the political, legal, and programmatic gains made in the last 60 years have actually resulted in practical community improvements for First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples. The panel raised key questions, including: Is Aboriginal self-governance closer to becoming a reality today than it was in 1995, when the policy was first initiated? What conditions are necessary to bring us closer to this outcome?
A recording of this panel, and others can be found here.
