I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Industrial Design at Carleton University. My interests lie in improving the lives of individuals facing challenges related to disability, illness, and aging. Serving as an Affiliate Scientist at the KITE Research Institute, my work aligns perfectly with my commitment to enhancing accessibility and overall well-being for diverse populations.
My background includes work as a Staff Scientist and Design and Fabrication Services Manager at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, where I played a crucial role in designing, building, and testing specialized equipment for medical and healthcare research. Through these experiences, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with scientists, engineers, clinicians, healthcare professionals, and patients, emphasizing the importance of translating research into practical solutions. My contributions span commercialization, policy development, and effective visual communication.
I have been fortunate to receive grants from Accessibility Standards Canada, which have enabled me to investigate topics such as revising accessibility standards for Canada’s national parks and formulating emergency response recommendations tailored to individuals with disabilities. Most recently, I have been added to the successful Canadian Institutes of Health Research Training Platform grant: Early Professionals, Inspired Careers in AgeTech (EPIC-AT). This role allows me to mentor the platform’s graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early career researcher participants, contributing to the advancement of age-related technology and accessibility.
