How do we see children? Who is included in the category of “child,” and who is excluded? How do legacies of colonialism, conflict, capitalism, and climate change shape the ways adults understand childhood? What are the material effects of those perceptions on the everyday lives of children? How can individuals and institutions work to honor children’s rights and support their well-being? These questions will be the focus of this roundtable discussion between Carleton University Visiting Scholar Bryan Mukandi (Institute of African Studies) and IIS faculty members Evelyn Namakula Mayanja (Human Rights and Social Justice) and Julie C. Garlen (Childhood and Youth Studies).
