Free and Paid Copilot Compared
Microsoft currently offers two main tiers of Copilot: the free Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat and the paid Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat (Free)
Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, the free version of Copilot, is available to anyone. By logging in with your MC1 password, a layer of Enterprise Data Protection is added, meaning that AI chat sessions will not be stored or used for training.
All Carleton staff, faculty and students members have access to Microsoft Copilot built into their Edge browsers, or by visiting m365copilot.com.
Microsoft 365 Copilot (Paid)
Information on how to procure the paid version of Copilot, known as Microsoft 365 Copilot, is available by clicking the button below.
Microsoft 365 Copilot adds your Carleton OneDrive, Outlook mailboxes and Teams sites to the information sources Copilot can search and use to answer your questions. It also enhances M365 desktop apps like Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote and Teams by adding Copilot functionality within each app.
