Kieran “Arrows” Lawford (NSERC PGS-M scholar, NSERC PGS-D scholar, he/him) is a PhD candidate with the Barry lab. He completed his Chemistry BSc Honours in 2022 at Carleton University, where he studied and prepared lead(II) species as vapor phase precursors for thin film depositions, and as ligand exchange reagents.
After his BSc, he pursued his MSc in the Barry Lab, and after a year he decided to fast-track to the PhD program. He is now preparing new molybdenum precursors for Mo-metal ALD in collaboration with Prof. Han-Bo-Ram Lee’s group at Incheon University, and our industrial partner SK Hynix, but he has also dipped his toes in chromium, tungsten, and vanadium chemistry, owing to his fascination of all transition metal chemistry.
In his spare time, Kieran loves reading science fiction, riding his fixie bike, cooking (although the eating is more inspiring than the cooking), and most of all climbing. He began climbing indoors in 2022, but he also boulders outdoors and recently started lead climbing (which he’s been loving). One day he wants to trad-climb in the Rockies and the Red Rock Canyon.
