National Wildlife Research Centre
The National Wildlife Research Centre occupies new facilities on the Carleton University campus in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. This location opens the door to new partnerships, giving government and university scientists new opportunities to collaborate on science that is critical to wildlife conservation.
The modern research centre has approximately 5700 m² of floor space and includes:
Specimen bank
Wildlife specimen storage facilities with three walk-in freezer rooms (-40°C), four ultra-low temperature (-80°C) chest freezers, and four liquid nitrogen storage tanks (about -150°C in the vapour phase).
Laboratories
15 well-equipped laboratories to support the monitoring and research activities of the Wildlife Toxicology Division and to accommodate students and researchers.
Greenhouse
A 100 m² greenhouse and plant growth chambers for studies requiring controlled environmental conditions.

Parking

Exterior Entrance
Accessible entrances on level 4 (North side, opposite Quad) and level 1 (South side, along University Drive and the Rideau River).
Interior Entrances
Tunnel entrance leads to level 3.

Accessible universal washrooms on levels 2-5 (door openers).

Remarks/Hints
Most of the building is off-limits to the public. Only level 3, which contains administrative and professors’ offices, is open to students. Security cards are required for access to the rest of the building.
Elevators
All 3 elevators feature tactile and braille buttons, an audible announcement system (beeps), and a mirror. Elevators 1 and 2 serve levels 2-5. Elevator 3 serves levels 1-3.
