The CONNECT Project team from Carleton University’s ACE Lab and the SAM₃ Innovation Hub led a three-hour interactive workshop at the On the Move: The Canadian Driving Rehabilitation and Transportation Conference, part of the CAOT 2025 Conference. The conference brought together a mix of professionals, including occupational therapists, driving instructors, mobility equipment manufacturers, healthcare providers, and researchers.

The workshop, titled “Integrating Practice and Technology: Adding Advanced Driver Assistance Systems into Driving Simulation to Support Safety and Accessibility,” drew about 50 attendees. York Computer Technologies from Kingston, ON, joined as a workshop facilitator to support hands-on simulation activities.

Participants received a practical introduction to key ADAS features—such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assistance—and explored how these technologies might support safer, more accessible driving for clients with diverse needs.

To demonstrate real-world applications, the team brought seven driving simulators in various configurations, including desktop, laptop-based, and virtual reality systems. Attendees rotated through stations to try 2D and 3D environments and discuss strategies for integrating ADAS into driver assessment and training.
