NSERC Prizes Call for Nominations
CORIS is currently accepting nominations for the NSERC Prizes. You are invited to submit an internal registration form to nominate yourself or an eligible colleague.
Carleton University and NSERC are committed to achieving a more equitable, diverse and inclusive research enterprise to create the excellent, innovative and impactful research necessary to advance knowledge and understanding, and to respond to local, national and global challenges.
We encourage nominations from all eligible candidates, including candidates from equity-seeking groups.
Prize categories
Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research in Science and Engineering
About: For outstanding Canadian teams of researchers from different disciplines who came together to engage in research drawing on their combined knowledge and skills, and produced a record of excellent achievements in the natural sciences and engineering.
Value and duration: $250,000 over 3 years
External Deadline: November 28, 2024
Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering
About: For an individual whose body of work, conducted in Canada in the natural sciences or engineering, has demonstrated persistent excellence and influence.
Value and duration: $1 million over 5 years
External Deadline: November 28, 2024
About: For an individual or team whose research, conducted in Canada, has led to a recent outstanding advance in any NSERC-supported field of the natural sciences or engineering.
Value: $250,000
External Deadline: November 28, 2024
About: For individuals and groups who make an outstanding contribution to the promotion of science in Canada through activities encouraging popular interest in science or developing science abilities.
Value: $10,000 (individual recipients) or $25,000 (group recipients).
External Deadline: November 15, 2024
About: In recognition of examples of collaboration that stand as models of effective partnership between partner organizations and colleges or universities.
Value: $200,000 for principal nominee and $50,000 voucher for partner organizations
External Deadline: December 6, 2024 (tentative)
Arthur B. McDonald Fellowships
About: For outstanding early-stage academic researchers in the natural sciences and engineering and to enhance their research capacity so that they can become leaders in their field and inspire others.
Value and duration: $250,000 over two years.
Eligibility: Candidates must have held an independent academic position for ten years or less as of the year of the current competition. Career interruptions will increase the period of eligibility by two months for every one month of leave. Candidates must also hold an NSERC grant at the time of submission.
External Deadline: December 16, 2024
Special requirements: The candidate’s home faculty must approve the teaching release funded through this fellowship.
Donna Strickland Prize for Societal Impact of Natural Sciences and Engineering Research
About: For an individual or team whose outstanding research, conducted in Canada in the natural sciences or engineering, has led to exceptional benefits for Canada’s society, environment, and/or economy.
Value and duration: $250,000 over 3 years

Deadline for internal registration form: September 20, 2024
All candidates will be contacted after the internal registration forms have been reviewed. CORIS will support nominees in the preparation of their external nomination dossier.
