Between Hope and Fear
A New Iran?
Highlights from the workshop
On 1 June 2016, the Academic Outreach branch of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) held an unclassified workshop during which a multi-disciplinary group of experts from Canada, the United States, Europe and the Middle East discussed political and security developments related to Iran.
The event provided an opportunity for the presenting experts and other participants to examine, almost one year after the signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, a range of issues illuminating the possible future of the country. Those included the evolving objectives and influence of Iranian political forces; the Supreme Leader’s succession; Iran’s role in the conflicts in Syria and Iraq; as well as Tehran’s relations with Russia and the Middle East.
