H.E. Mr. Trudeau addressed the 71st session of the General Assembly beginning by praising NY for its resilience in the face of attacks. Other themes included:
- the need for leaders to allay anxieties (a host of them including lack of employment, lack of gender parity, and a lack of opportunities for children) by enabling a safer, more peaceful world and creating economic growth that was broadly shared;
- Canada’s reengagement with the world via a number of multilateral fora; and
- the strength of diversity
“Every single day, we need to choose hope over fear” and unity over division. “People want their problems solved, not exploited,” he said, calling on the international community to work in concert to those ends.
