Biography
A leader in the Ottawa business community, Steve Spooner built the foundations of his highly successful career at Carleton University, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1980.
Spooner continues to be involved with the Carleton community and the Sprott School of Business, where he serves as an advisory board member. His contributions help ensure continued success of the school in educating future private-sector leaders and innovators.
He currently serves as the CFO of Mitel Networks, a $1.6B, 4,400-person tech leader. He has considerable experience in mergers and acquisitions and raising capital, leading the largest IPO in Ottawa history for Mitel.
“I look back at my time at Carleton and fondly remember the excellent faculty who delivered a challenging and broad-based curriculum that prepared me well for the business world, graduating with skills in finance, accounting, marketing, IT, industrial relations and law, among other disciplines,” he says.

Prior to his time at Mitel, Spooner held several executive positions at various companies and has held roles as CFO, COO and CEO.
A longtime Ottawa resident, Spooner serves the community through his work with the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, where he held several leading roles and frequently assists in fundraising activities.
Spooner received his CA designation in 1982 and became a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants in 2013. He also holds the ICD.D designation as a professional director.
