Arms In the Arts? A Roundtable on Corporate Sponsorship and Literary Prizing
September 19, 2024 at 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM
Location: | 2017 Dunton Tower |
In the wake of a summer that saw thousands of students occupy university campuses across North America to call for, among other things, university divestment from corporations that are directly profiting from the war on Gaza, this roundtable seeks to engender conversations about anti-war and divestment campaigns and their relation to the arts, and literary prizing, in particular.
A roundtable featuring three speakers, followed by conversation.
- Sarah Brouillette (Professor, Department of English): “Where Does Literary Prize Money Come From and What Does It Do?”
- Maya Chorney, (M.A. Candidate, Department of English): “Violence In the Arts, From Student Clubs to National Funding Bodies”
- Jody Mason (Professor, Department of English): “The Giller Complex and the Rise of Corporate Prizing in Canada”
All are welcome.
