YA Fiction: A Reading and Discussion with Ottawa Authors Nina Berkhout and Kasigo Lesego Molope

Please join us to hear readings by acclaimed authors Nina Berkhout and Kasigo Lesego Molope, followed by a discussion and Q and A moderated by Professor Sarah Brouillette on the topic of Young Adult Fiction.

Nina Berkhout is the author of three novels, most recently Why Birds Sing (ECW Press), which will appear in France in 2023 and which was named a “must read” by The Globe and Mail and the Ottawa Citizen, a Best Book of the Year (Canada) by Amazon’s Audible audiobooks, and a 2021 Great Group Reads by the Women’s National Book Association (USA). Her young adult novel The Mosaic was nominated for the White Pine Award and named an Indigo Best Teen Book, and her novel The Gallery of Lost Species was named an Indigo and Kobo Best Book and a Harper’s Bazaar Hottest Breakout Novel. Berkhout is also the author of five poetry collections, including Elseworlds, which won the Archibald Lampman Award. Originally from Calgary, she now lives in Ottawa, where she works at the National Gallery of Canada.

Kagiso Lesego Molope is the author of four novels and was three times nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. She is also the winner of the 2015 Percy Fitzpatrick award, the 2019 Ottawa Book Award and the 2019 Inaugural Pius Adesanmi Memorial Award, and was the 2022 writer-in-residence at the University of Ottawa.
