CHEeR House

The eSim 2022 organizers are pleased to announce a technical tour of the Urbandale Centre for Home Energy Research (CHEeR House) at Carleton University. The CHEeR House is a full-scale experimental facility that is used for conducting long-term explorations of novel and unproven concepts aimed at radically reducing the reliance of Canadian housing on conventional energy sources. The facility possesses redundant energy conversion, storage, and distribution systems to enable research on numerous topics with minimal switch-over time required. There is a large array of evacuated-tube solar-thermal collectors, two buried seasonal-thermal stores, an air-source heat pump coupled to a rock-bed thermal store, a water/water heat pump, radiant hydronic floors, supply and return ducts, an energy-recovery ventilator connected to dedicated ducting, and an auxiliary electric boiler.

Due to the Carleton’s health and safety requirements, the space is limited and will be offered based on a first come first serve basis exclusively for the eSim 2022 delegates. To register please contact eSim 2022 Organizers at esim2022@conftool.com.

Indoor Air Research Laboratory (IARL) Test Facility

The eSim 2022 organizers are pleased to announce a technical tour of the Indoor Air Research Laboratory (IARL) test facility on National Research Council’s Montréal Road (Headquarters) Campus in Ottawa. Some of the features of this facility include an advanced tracer gas system, a dedicated AHU with motorized damper control for each supply and return duct, and motorized damper ports on the exterior to vary exterior envelope leakage area size and location. The IARL has been used for research in envelope infiltration, indoor air quality, radon ingress and re-entrainment from active soil depressurization systems, pollutant transfer from attached garages, and contamination between HRV supply and return streams.

Due to the Government of Canada’s health and safety requirements, the space is limited and will be offered based on a first come first serve basis exclusively for the eSim 2022 delegates. To register please contact eSim 2022 Organizers at esim2022@conftool.com. Instructions for transportation options will be provided to the registrants of the event.
