FASS Fair: Tomorrow! Come learn more about Arts and Social Science degrees

Still deciding on a major? The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Fair is a great place to meet profs and learn about degrees offered in the arts and social science fields. Each department will have a rep on hand to tell you more about the great stuff you’d study in that program.

When: Saturday, February 10 from 1:00-3:00 pm

Winter Break: Feb 19-23

The winter break is a great time to rest, rejuvenate and regroup for the remainder of the term. No classes or workshops are held during the study break. The university will be open during the break, except for Monday, February 19, the Family Day holiday.

Plan ahead

Coaches will be away during Reading Week, but why not plan and book an appointment now for after Reading Week.  Coaches understand what it is like at this time of the year with assignments and tests, and they can help. You pay for coaching with your fees. Your appointment will be all about what YOU need for studying and answering YOUR questions.

Apply to be an ESP Mentor

ESP Mentor applications for 2024-25 are open!

If you want to apply, go to carleton.ca/esp/employment-opportunities/esp-mentors/

The deadline is March 5th.  Any questions, feel free to ask.

What makes someone qualified to be an ESP Mentor?

  • former ESP student who is in a degree program as of September 2024
  • excellent attendance in workshops and FYSM/CIED class
  • enjoys the FYSM/CIED classroom vibe and likes to help others

The mentoring job is 4-6 hours a week and pays $18/hr.

The winter exam schedule will be released on February 16th.

Join other ESP students for game and movie nights

Join fellow ESP students at one of the mentor-organized games or movie nights. You’re welcome to bring a friend if you like!

  • Most Thursdays are Game nights starting at 5:00pm. Please note: there will not be a Game night during study break (Feb 22)
  • The last Thursday of each month will be a Movie night, starting at 5:00 pm  
  • Game nights won’t run on the days that movie nights are being held.

Games nights are in the ESP Student Lounge, room 1521 Dunton Tower (15th floor). Movie nights are held in room 234 Tory Building.

Art contest for the ESP Lounge

Want to share your creativity with other ESP-ers? Enter our art contest and have your art displayed in the ESP student lounge.

Rules and guidelines:

  1. Open to all former and current ESP students, mentors, coaches, and facilitators
  2. Physical piece of art! Drop it off at the ESP front office (DT 1516)
  3. Deadline to get your art in is Wednesday, March 6
  4. YOU are the voters! (you can only vote once). Votes will be accepted between Monday, March 11 and Friday, March 15
  5. We will announce the winner on Monday, March 18
  6. The winner will have their art displayed in the ESP Lounge (DT 1521) and there will be a prize!
