Good evening everyone! We are very excited to ‘go live’ with our event! The Global Consequences of Displacement from Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine will focus on how Russia’s war in Ukraine has decimated the country’s social, political and economic fabric. The consequences of the invasion have echoed beyond the borders of Ukraine. Ukrainians have fled near and far, and have had to make complicated decisions surrounding shelter, family, and health. The following questions will guide the premise of the conference:
How do we best incorporate voices from those displaced from the war and recognize them as critical to informing best practices on handling this wave of refugees and displaced peoples?
What factors inform the decision-making of displaced people as they leave their homes?
How do refugees relate to the host society and where do we see pluralism functioning (or not)?
How can we evaluate the preparation and capacity of cities and host communities to adapt to substantial migration at the edges of war?
What roles do we see for stakeholders at different levels, from the supranational to the state, the municipal, and, finally, the everyday?
How can research on the Ukrainian displacement situation be foregrounded in the perspectives of those closest to the phenomenon of forced migration and compared transnationally?
By gathering an array of experts on the subject matter, we seek to combine civil society, academic, and governmental expertise to answer these questions. Our goal is to produce diverse forms of knowledge that will broadly mobilize the outcomes of our collaboration and focus on those at risk.
Please join us on November 3-4 2022 at the Global Centre for Pluralism in Ottawa (330 Sussex Drive) to engage with the conference. In order to attend, you must register at the link listed below:
