Workshop Sessions (May 5, 2023)

SESSION 1

This panel looks at the realities of Ukrainian citizens in Canada from different perspectives. In particular, three presentations focus on three different aspects, including the experiences of single mothers, especially through the lens of language barriers, discussion on migration from Ukraine to Canada prior to the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel, as well as experiences with regard to human trafficking in the country. Finally, a presentation by the Carleton Ukrainian Student Association observes the ways in which Carleton can improve its integration of Ukrainian Students.

SESSION 2

This panel looks at different aspects of social life which have been affected by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Three different topics are each explored further in individual presentations, including language attitudes in Armenia as pertains to Russian migration, an in depth observation of LGBTQ experiences among Ukrainian migrants, as well as discussion on the reevaluation of refugee categorization as a result of the conflict.
