What is it?
A standard classification system to categorize a marketable item produced to fulfill a need or want; references both goods and services. The list of Commodity Codes in eShop is a subset of this classification system.
Why is it important?
Commodity Codes allow us to route documents and compare like items in eShop. They also auto populate the Account code field with a default Account number that has been predetermined as the best suited option for that particular good or service. If you need to use an Account number that is not associated with the Commodity Code you have chosen, please email eShop@carleton.ca.
