This award was established by Sheila McCallum, a long-time employee of Carleton University and valued team member in the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences for many years. The award recognizes the exceptional contributions of staff members within the Faculty and promotes innovation and collaboration among staff.
One award valued at $1,000 will be given annually.
Nominees should be current full- or part-time administrative staff working within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Directors, senior administrators, faculty members, librarians, and students are not eligible. This award recognizes individuals, not teams or groups.
Those selected for the award will have demonstrated consistently excellent service with a spirit of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The Selection Committee will look for evidence that the nominee's excellent service has created a significant, positive, and lasting impact on their unit and/or the Faculty as a whole.
Nominators may be faculty, staff, students, alumni, or retirees. Self-nominations are not permitted. Members of the Selection Committee may not nominate candidates for the awards.
A nomination package should be prepared for each nominee and provided to the Faculty Administrative Coordinator (Sarah Quirt), Office of the Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, 330 Paterson Hall, by October 31, 2024. This package must include:

Note: It is possible that more than one package will be received for the same nominee. This is acceptable, but the second package must be from a separate “champion” and authors of nomination letters should only support one of the nominee’s packages. “Champions” and authors of nomination letters can support more than one nominee.
The Manager, Faculty Operations of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, will manage the yearly nomination process, establish procedures and support the Selection Committee.
For the 2023 cycle, selection will be made in early November by a committee made up of the following members:
Year One - 2012 Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social SciencesAdministrative Officer, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences,one faculty member from within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
Year Two - 2013 Administrative Officer, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciencesone faculty member from within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences,recipient of the previous year’s award
Subsequent Years - 2014 on One faculty member from within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, recipients of the award for the two prior years
Note: Award recipients will be asked to serve a two-year term on the selection committee and will rotate off of the committee as additional recipients are selected. The Manager, Faculty Operations will not be a voting member of the committee.
All recipients will be provided with the opportunity to accept or refuse the award before any announcement is made.
