This Coffee Hour was a special celebration to mark Finance and Administration achieving Gold Level certification in the Excellence, Innovation and Wellness (EIW) standard with Excellence Canada. We were honoured to have Karen Jackson, senior advisor with Excellence Canada, join us to mark this occasion. The program included Vice-President Michel Piché who gave opening remarks, Karen Jackson, and Ed Kane, assistant vice-president (University Services), who outlined our Journey to Excellence. The focus of this Coffee Hour was our Going for Gold application to achieve Gold Level certification in the Excellence, Innovation and Wellness standard with Excellence Canada. There was a special presentation that featured stories from the various departments across the division and how they have implemented elements of EIW in their daily work. Michel Piché discussed the university’s priorities for the upcoming year, as well as gave staff an overview of the 2017-’18 budget.

Michel Piché, vice-president (Finance and Administration), hosted his inaugural Coffee Hour on Nov. 9 for all Finance and Administration staff. Michel provided an update about what is happening across the division, as well as highlighted some key initiatives happening at the university in the coming months. Danny Brown, manager of Web Services, did a presentation of the university’s new Intranet, which is in a pilot phase.

The theme of this Coffee Hour was “Celebrate.” The division took the occasion to celebrate being awarded Silver Level certification in the Excellence, Innovation and Wellness standard from Excellence Canada. Gary Seveny, chairman of the Board of Governors for Excellence Canada, was on hand to present Duncan Watt and the team with our certificate.

In keeping with the theme, Ed Kane, assistant vice-president (University Services), presented the Silver Level strengths as outlined by the Excellence Canada verifers’ report, and Tyler Hall of OIRP gave an overview of the results of the Excellence Canada survey that was part of our certification.

Six Things to Learn from the EIW Survey

This Coffee Hour celebrated the division’s recent achievement in receiving the Bronze Level of the Excellence, Innovation and Wellness standard from Excellence Canada.

In addition, this event offered the opportunity to learn about upcoming plans within the division and ask questions about the division’s strategic priorities.  Guest speakers included:

This term’s Coffee Hour featured an environmental scan by Duncan Watt, followed updates on our Journey to Excellence – both the Level 2 Healthy Workplace  certification (by Ed Kane) and the Bronze Level Excellence, Innovation, and Wellness certification (by Mary Kathryn Roberts and Scott Gonsalves).  Cindy Taylor, Betsy Springer, Tim Sullivan, and Rob Thomas spoke to the new 2014/2015 Balanced Scorecard objectives and initiatives.  The day concluded with Sandy Nelson’s introduction of Project eShop – a new e-Procurement market place and central hub for services (coming 2015).  View the presentation slides.
