Workshop Description
This workshop shows students how to develop a professional development strategy that will boost their level of employability. Emphasis is placed on the creation of a holistic plan, incorporating both action and reflection, that is meant to bridge gaps in skillset and promote goal-oriented thinking. Participants learn about the building blocks of such a plan, including identifying the skills they need to acquire, the academic and non-academic activities through which they may be acquired, and the professional development resources available to graduate students on and off campus.
Learning Outcomes
(1) Explain the premise and main sections of the Individual Development Plan, and particularly the section on exploring the job market
(2) Make a list of skills to be acquired or enhanced over the next 12 months
(3) Create plan for acquiring new skills through academic and non-academic professional development activities
