Description:
Academic writing and “copywriting” (writing for marketing purposes) are very different arts, yet each can inform the other. Learn the basics of writing to sell, and you will not only gain some valuable skills that can benefit you outside of academia but also sharpen your writing skills in general. We’ll look at the principles and techniques behind both traditional copywriting and the world of content marketing.
Learning outcomes:
(1) Understand the difference between writing as a means of contributing to an academic conversation and writing to sell or promote
(2) Grasp the basic editing principles required to turn informational text into clean, persuasive copy
(3) Learn how to incorporate testimonials into copy
(4) Gain an overview of the world of “content marketing,” or the production of niche media content to encourage a customer culture that will lead to sales
