Crowds, Carousels, and Potlucks: How Active-Learning Pedagogy Can Spark and Strengthen Class Discussions

Location: | 422 Dunton Tower |
Cost: | Free |
Audience: | Current Students |
Hosted by: Michael Murphy, University of Ottawa
Description: One major lesson of active-learning pedagogy is that the instructor can help students grow as learners by moving from being a “sage on the stage” to a “guide at their side.” By adopting an active-learning strategy like the “carousel,” students have the opportunity to engage with course materials, build on the strengths of the group, and receive (and give) feedback to one another. In this workshop, we will discuss and apply three important concepts of active-learning pedagogy: interteaching, crowdsourcing, and the carousel model.
Skills/Knowledge Developed: Engaging students, incorporating activities
Registration: Please see the TA Management System on Carleton Central after December 22nd, 2017.
