Description:

Graduate students and postdocs don’t always recognize the many skills they already possess. In this workshop you will learn how to mine your experience for hard and soft skills that are of value to non-academic employers.

This workshop is part of the series Establish Your Career Narrative. The series consists of the workshops “Identify Your Skills,” “Explore the Job Market,” and “Enhance Your Employability”

Learning outcomes:

  • Explain the premise and main sections of an Individual Development Plan, and particularly the section on skill identification
  • List the benefits of articulating transferable skills
  • Describe techniques used to identify skills and articulate them (translation, mining)

Please note: All graduate students are welcome. If you are a TA, this session counts toward voluntary paid training hours, provided that you are working as a TA in the term when the training takes place.
