Founder

Kokom Scrunchies is a family-run Indigenous business founded in 2019 by Mya Beaudry, an Algonquin youth from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation. At just 9 years old, Mya was inspired by the strong women in her life, “Kokom,” meaning grandmother, honours the matriarchs who guide our community.

Every scrunchie is named after an Indigenous role model, with new designs released year-round. Today, Kokom Scrunchies also offers lanyards, shoelaces, ribbon skirt kits, and a colouring storybook.

Join us in celebrating Indigenous culture, creativity, and community. What began as a simple idea has grown into a movement to inspire all ages young and old.
