Carleton University’s commitment to cybersecurity is twofold. First, we offer training that enables students to become highly qualified. Michel Barbeau

Dr. Michel Barbeau graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Université de Sherbrooke in 1985. In 1987, I completed a master’s in computer science at Université de Montréal, and Dr. Barbeau obtained a Ph.D. in computer science from Université de Montréal in 1991, receiving the Governor General’s Gold Academic Medal. Dr. Barbeau has 33 years of experience in the academic environment. In 1991, he began his academic career as an assistant professor at Université de Sherbrooke, where he worked until the end of 1999, with a one-year hiatus as a visiting professor at the University of Aizu, Japan. In 2000, he joined Carleton University and the School of Computer Science. He is now a full professor and the Director for the School of Computer Science.

Ashraf Matrawy

Dr. Ashraf Matrawy is a Professor at the School of Information Technology, Carleton University. He is a senior member of the IEEE and licensed Professional Engineer in Ontraio. He leads the Next Generation Networks Group at Carleton. He served as a Network co-investigator of Smart Cybersecurity Network (SERENE-RISC) in Canada. His research interests include AI for network security and reliable and secure computer networking.  Dr. Matrawy has won multiple awards for his contributions to network security research and education. He served as associate director for the School of Information Technology for three and a half years. In addition to his academic work, he worked and consulted for both Canadian Government and Industry including Industry Canada, TELUS Communications, and Irdeto.

Jason Jaskolka

Dr. Jason Jaskolka is an Associate Professor in the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering and the Director of the Cyber Security Evaluation and Assurance (CyberSEA) Research Lab at Carleton University, Ottawa, ON, Canada. He received his Ph.D. in Software Engineering in 2015 from McMaster University, Hamilton, ON, Canada. His research interests include cyber security evaluation and assurance, threat modeling, security-by-design, and formal methods and data-driven approaches for software and security engineering. He is interested in applying his research to critical infrastructures, industrial control systems, cyber-physical and distributed systems, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Paul Van Oorschot

Paul C. Van Oorschot is a Professor of Computer Science at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. He is an ACM Fellow, IEEE Fellow, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He is author of Computer Security and the Internet: Tools and Jewels from Malware to Bitcoin (2021), and co-author of Handbook of Applied Cryptography (1996).  His research interests include authentication and identity management, computer and Internet security, key management, and applied cryptography.
