“I have always been fascinated with understanding issues pertaining to forced migration, given today’s climate the question of what can we do better to help those most directly affected has been weighing on my mind. I think the goal of project is admirable and something that could really change the tone and discussion around refugees for the better.
I helped with the planning and running of the two-day all-partners meeting, worked on reconciling the budget, overseeing other students, working on handbooks, briefing document and working on the LERRN website hosted on Carleton.ca. Each task has taught me so much especially in terms of skills related to program management but also in other simple things like understanding the correct formatting, reconciling trips and other receipts, working with people in various positions.
The event/activity that I felt was particularly important was the all-partner’s meeting that took place in September 2018. This was an opportunity to liaise with internal and external collaborators to ensure, many of whom were volunteering their time, to be part of the project. During that period of time, I also oversaw the volunteers and work study students so the experience of learning how to delegate and work with others to ensure that everything is put into place was valuable to me as well.”
