Yasmine Ghania
Social Media and Communications Officer
I am a third-year undergraduate student studying journalism. I’m a firm believer that there is always a story to tell, which is why it’s been a pleasure telling the stories of LERRN’s amazing partners and projects. In my free time I enjoy taking photos, reading and discovering new restaurants.
I was immediately drawn to join the LERRN team as I am very interested in refugee and migration issues. LERRN has given me the opportunity to express my ideas and receive helpful feedback from a group of committed and hardworking people. During my time with LERRN, I have developed a communications strategy, assisted in enhancing the LERRN website and social media presence and promoted our partners, events and other LERRN activities.
One particular event that was of great importance to me was the film screening of AISLE, a film made by Hicham Kayed, a Palestinian filmmaker. The beautiful film is about two brothers who are Palestinian refugees living in Germany, who share their feelings on leaving their home and family behind. I was extremely happy to see so many community members gather to watch a film on such an important topic.
As a journalism student, this placement has tremendously helped me improve my writing and digital skills, think creatively and overall be a better communicator.
