Overview

This lecture uses Italian songs to enhance language learning and practice while deepening cultural understanding. The course has three key goals:

  1. Language Acquisition – Songs are used to improve vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.
  2. Cultural Understanding – The historical, social, and cultural contexts of Italian songs are explored.
  3. Engagement and Creativity – Students actively participate through song analysis, discussions, and creative projects, including opportunities to express themselves through music.

The curriculum features a diverse selection of Italian songs from various eras and genres, with lessons structured around listening exercises, lyrics analysis, and cultural discussions. Interactive activities enhance the learning experience. Benefits include increased engagement, cultural appreciation, and confidence in using the Italian language.

Lecturer Biograpy

Marcella Marceddu is a Lecturer in Italian at Carleton University’s School of Linguistics and Language Studies (SLALS). With a background in Italian literature, linguistics, and teaching Italian as a second language, she is passionate about promoting Italian language and culture. Marcella holds advanced degrees in modern languages and has extensive experience teaching in diverse international settings. Her research interests include language acquisition, translation, and innovative approaches to language teaching. Marcella is dedicated to fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment for her students.
