As Associate Vice President (Research&International) here at Carleton University, I keep my eye on awards given to our emerging young scholars. Recently, the Royal Society of Canada created the college of new scholars, artists and scientists. Two Carleton faculty, Sheryl Hamilton (Canada Research Chair in Law & Communications) and Stuart Murray (Canada Research Chair in Rhetoric and Ethics) were among the inaugural cohort of members of the college. Congratulations, Sheryl and Stuart! One can find their brief bios here. Looking over the cohort, I was heartened to see that a previous PhD candidate here at Carleton also has been inducted. Dr. Mark Mallory, a CRC himself in Coastal Wetland Ecology at Acadia University (Wolfville, Nova Scotia) has recently received the recognition he vastly deserves.
Mark did his PhD under my supervision a few years back (see section on HQP). His advisors were immediately impressed that Mark had so many ‘irons in the fire’ with so many other researchers at so many different institutions and organizations. He’s a prolific writer, a great mentor, and a very strong collaborator. He completed his PhD without even being on educational leave from Environment Canada. Congratulations Mark!
